As a host, I think it’s drastically different. I have to talk to people with a microphone! I’m going to try as hard as I can to be normal, but it’s going to be a challenge for me. I think we’re in a time where fashion is more open to comedy. Last year, I ran late and got out of the car and walked a block to the gala. Exactly. With Tory, we had to stand in a large van on the way to The Met in order to not wrinkle the dress. We were in stop and start traffic and I felt like I was surfing in my ball gown. The level of glamor leads to humor. I’ve been obsessed with Karl Lagerfeld since I was a kid, so this is super surreal for me. And going back to comedy, I think Karl was one of the funniest designers ever. One year, for my birthday, I got a book of his quotes. My favorite quote, which I’m telling you as I’m wearing sweatpants, is, “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat.
